If you are in Watford during the summer months, you will be entertained by the many events on offer. The town is hosting some incredible concerts, festivals, workshops and performances. The local community is welcome to get involved, and there are plenty of kid friendly events and also adult-only events on offer. You are sure to find something you love with this great events programme.
Big Events is part of Watford Borough Council’s ongoing commitment to community improvement and engagement. You are
welcome to take part. Many events are suitable for children, and lots of them are also free to attend!
Music lovers will rejoice at the regular big band sessions which are held in Cassiobury Park. The brass band plays a mix of golden oldies and contemporary tunes. Find the bandstand near the Cha Cafe. Shows take place every Sunday, between 2-4pm, and there are additional shows on some weekdays. The Big JiveSwing is a festival for jazz lovers.
Musicians, bands and dance acts will all perform throughout the festival, which takes place on July 29 from 1pm.
Fans of arts and culture should check out the annual Imagine Watford arts festival. The event celebrates its eighth birthday in July. Street performers and musicians entertain the crowds while great street food and interesting crafts are sold. You can find more information about this event at www.imaginewatford.co.uk.
In 2018, Big Screen and Big Beach have split into separate events because local residents felt this would be more enjoyable. The Big Screen film festival is hosted by The Parade at the dedicated events space, and the Big Beach will also be held at this location. Movies will be screened between 6 and 22 July, including family films and classic cinema. The Big Screen will also show Wimbledon matches. The Parade will be transformed for two weeks during the Big Beach event. Sand will be brought in to cover the events space, which will welcome families during the day and just adults and teens on an evening. You can sign up for exercise classes, and youngsters can also join up for activity sessions and fun sports competitions.
The Wat’s On programme is available during the summer holidays. Children aged 5 to 15 can take part. Play sessions are free and children can attend as few or as many sessions as they like (subject to availability). Turn up early to avoid disappointment because these play sessions will be extremely popular with the children of Watford!
Free Swim and Gym
Children aged 19 and under can enjoy free swim and gym sessions at selected local leisure centres. Venues include Watford Woodside Leisure Centre and Watford Central Leisure Centre. Swim for free on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Young people get free gym access on Mondays and Wednesdays. Attend between 2pm and 4pm to use this offer.
